The USS Gerald R. Ford, the largest aircraft carrier in the United States Navy, has arrived off the northern coast of Israel, according to Reuters

The carrier’s deployment is part of one of the largest American military buildups in the Middle East in decades, as Washington expands its naval and air power amid heightened tensions with Iran over its nuclear programme and regional security threats.

Earlier in the week, the carrier left the Greek island of Crete after a resupply stop at the Souda Bay Naval Base and was expected to reach Israel’s waters, with strike group escorts joining it from the Mediterranean.

This deployment complements the existing presence of USS Abraham Lincoln and other U.S. warships already stationed in the region, reinforcing deterrence as indirect nuclear talks with Tehran continue in Geneva.
