Dubai: Five people were injured in a four-vehicle collision in the Jebel Ali area after a driver lost control of his car due to careless and inattentive driving, a Dubai misdemeanours court has ruled.

The court fined a 24-year-old Asian driver Dh 5,000, convicting him in absentia of causing injuries and damaging multiple vehicles in the accident.

According to court records, the defendant was driving a private vehicle when it suddenly swerved and collided with another car before crashing into three public transport vehicles, triggering a chain collision.

The accident resulted in injuries to five people and caused significant material damage to several vehicles, local media reported.

The court said the driver’s responsibility was established through official accident reports, on-site inspections, traffic investigation findings and a technical sketch of the crash. Medical reports confirmed that the victims suffered varying degrees of injury, while the case file also included the defendant’s admission during police questioning.

Despite being formally notified, the defendant failed to appear before the court, allowing the trial to proceed in absentia under criminal procedure law.

In its ruling, the court stated that the evidence was sufficient to prove the defendant’s guilt, noting that the offences stemmed from a single act of negligent driving. Taking the circumstances into account, the court imposed a fine of Dh 5,000.
