Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Hit UAE, NCM Issues Alerts
Dubai: The UAE is experiencing a significant period of unstable weather, with heavy rainfall and a sharp decrease in temperatures sweeping across the country. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has reported that the low-pressure system is expected to continue impacting the region until Friday, bringing with it a range of hazardous weather conditions.
Heavy rains began falling in Fujairah and the East Coast regions on early Tuesday, leading to a severe drop in visibility and a noticeable chill in the air. The rainfall has been accompanied by a significant drop in temperatures, with the mercury dipping to 9.9ºC in Ras Al Khaimah's Jais Mountain. The mountainous areas of Ras Al Khaimah are expected to face even colder weather, with temperatures potentially dropping further.
The NCM has issued both orange and yellow alerts for certain parts of Khor Fakkan and Fujairah, warning residents of rough seas and strong winds. Southeasterly winds are reaching speeds of up to 45 km/hr, contributing to a rough sea state in the Arabian Gulf. Offshore wave heights are expected to reach up to 7 ft, continuing until 1 pm on Tuesday.
The NCM is advising residents to exercise caution, especially near the coast and during the daytime, as the unstable conditions are expected to persist throughout the week. Residents are also being warned to take care if they are allergic to dust, as it is being swept across the country.
