At Least 10 Dead, Including Gunman, in Sydney’s Bondi Beach Shooting
At least 10 people, including one of the gunmen, were killed in a shooting at Bondi Beach on Sunday. Police said another gunman was arrested, and 12 others were injured.
Witnesses described chaotic scenes as the attack unfolded. “I saw at least 10 people on the ground and blood everywhere,” said local resident Harry Wilson.
Officials confirmed the shooting took place during a Hanukkah celebration on the beach. Alex Ryvchin, co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, called the attack “horrific” and said it targeted the Jewish community during a joyful event.
Videos shared online showed people running in panic as gunshots rang out and police arrived. In some footage, officers could be seen restraining two men while attempting resuscitation.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s office urged people near Bondi to follow instructions from NSW Police, warning of an ongoing security situation.
The attack comes nearly 11 years after the Lindt Cafe siege in Sydney, which also ended in multiple deaths.
