Macron Lands in Beijing to Boost Trade Ties and Discuss Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening economic ties and discussing diplomatic efforts related to the Russia–Ukraine conflict.

According to the Élysée, Macron will push for greater cooperation in trade and investment, with a focus on achieving balanced and sustainable growth. France hopes to attract more Chinese investment and expand market access for French products.

Both countries are expected to sign several agreements during the visit, covering energy, the food industry, and aviation. Macron also plans to defend the importance of “fair and reciprocal market access,” his office said.

Macron and his wife, Brigitte, landed in Beijing after nightfall, stepping off the plane in light overcoats as temperatures dropped. They were welcomed by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi before departing in a motorcade.

Later on Wednesday, the French president will tour the historic Qianlong Garden in the Forbidden City. The 18th-century Qing dynasty site recently reopened to the public following extensive restoration work.
