A massive fire broke out this afternoon at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, prompting a swift emergency response and temporary suspension of flight operations.
The blaze reportedly began around 3:00 pm in the airport’s Cargo Village — the main storage facility — sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and causing panic among airport staff and visitors.
According to initial reports, at least 30 firefighting units were deployed to Gate No. 8 of the Cargo Village to contain the flames. Firefighters faced significant challenges due to the intensity of the fire, which rapidly spread across parts of the storage area.
Airport security teams quickly cordoned off the affected zone to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of nearby personnel.
Mohammad Kausar Mahmud, Assistant Director of Public Relations at the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), confirmed at around 3:30 pm that all flight operations from the airport had been suspended as a precautionary measure.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not yet reported any casualties or injuries.
Emergency response teams remain on-site as efforts continue to fully extinguish the blaze and assess the extent of the damage.
