The United Nations has called on Afghanistan's Taliban government to immediately restore internet and telecommunications services, following a nationwide blackout that began 24 hours ago.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) warned that the disruption has left the country almost completely cut off from the outside world. "This cut in access risks causing serious harm to the Afghan people, including threatening economic stability and worsening one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises," the mission said in a statement.
UNAMA emphasized the urgent need for communication services to resume to prevent further social and economic disruption in Afghanistan.
