U.S. President Donald Trump met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday to discuss pressing global issues, including the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as trade relations, during the second and final day of his state visit to the United Kingdom.
The meeting at Chequers, the prime minister’s country residence near London, followed a night of royal pageantry at Windsor Castle, where Trump was hosted by King Charles III. The U.S. president described his stay as “really great,” praising the monarch as “a great gentleman and a great king.”
Starmer, joined by his wife Victoria, welcomed Trump with warm gestures as bagpipes played outside the 16th-century manor. Before their formal talks, the prime minister guided Trump through a collection of Winston Churchill artifacts, appealing to the American leader’s admiration for Britain’s wartime prime minister.
The discussions are expected to focus on rallying U.S. support for Ukraine, an issue where Starmer has sought to act as a bridge between Washington and European allies. Trade relations and the ongoing crisis in Gaza also featured on the agenda.
Trump’s two-day visit began with an extravagant display of royal ceremony, including a state banquet, a carriage procession, and a military flypast. The Chequers talks marked a shift from pomp to politics, with both leaders aiming to strengthen transatlantic ties amid mounting global challenges.
