International Day of Clean Air: A Call for Blue Skies
Air pollution is one of the world’s biggest health threats—but it doesn’t have to be. Today, almost everyone on the planet breathes unsafe air, contributing to millions of deaths each year, especially among children and the elderly.
Experts say the solutions are clear and achievable. Cleaner air can be reached by investing in renewable energy, managing waste responsibly, stopping deforestation and wildfires, and supporting environmentally friendly farming practices. Strong policies, public alert systems, and international cooperation are also essential.
This year, governments have a key opportunity with new national climate plans, known as NDCs, to make real progress in cutting emissions and transitioning away from fossil fuels.
For too many, blue skies have been replaced by grey, polluted air. Today is a reminder to act urgently—so everyone can breathe clean, safe air and enjoy a healthier planet.
