Finnish President Calls on Trump to Pressure Russia on Ukraine

Finnish President Alexander Stubb urged U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday to take stronger actions that could push Russia to negotiate with Ukraine. Stubb, who has a friendly relationship with Trump through golf and leads a country bordering Russia, said he hopes Trump’s patience with Moscow will “run out.”
“Every time President Trump’s patience has run out, he has taken action that helped move toward a solution,” Stubb told reporters.
He pointed to the tariffs the U.S. recently announced on India, which were imposed because India continues to buy Russian oil, gas, and weapons. Stubb suggested that similar measures against other countries could bring Russia back to the negotiating table.
Trump has linked trade and diplomacy, warning of 50% tariffs on countries like India, arguing that their purchases of Russian resources support Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
