Turkey’s Transport Minister, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, has been fined for speeding after posting a video of himself racing down a highway near Ankara.

The video, shared on X on Sunday evening with the hashtag #TurkeyAccelerates, shows Uraloglu driving while listening to folk songs and clips of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s speeches. In several shots, the speedometer is visible, revealing speeds between 190 and 225 km/h (118 to 140 mph) — well above the 140 km/h (85 mph) limit on that highway.

Hours later, Uraloglu reposted the video, acknowledging the fine and admitting the post had “effectively denounced” himself. “I took to the wheel to check the Ankara-Nigde highway and unintentionally exceeded the speed limit for a short period,” he wrote.

The penalty notice he shared shows he was fined 9,267 Turkish Lira ($225) for driving at 225 km/h. Uraloglu added, “I will be much more careful from now on. Sticking to the speed limit is mandatory for everyone.”
