U.S. President Donald Trump said that Iran is showing a willingness to negotiate, but he’s not in a hurry to talk with Tehran. Trump claimed that recent U.S. airstrikes had severely damaged Iran’s nuclear facilities, which has weakened their position.
“They want to talk… but I’m not in a rush because we’ve already destroyed their sites,” Trump told journalists after arriving from Pittsburgh, referring to last month’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear locations.
On the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Trump expressed skepticism over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intentions, saying, “Putin hasn’t lived up to his claims about wanting peace.”
Trump also mentioned U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as a potential replacement for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, though he added with a smile, “He’s a strong option — but maybe not, because I actually like the job Powell is doing.”
Addressing Ukraine’s military strategy, Trump advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky not to target Moscow. He urged Putin to agree to a ceasefire deal within 50 days, warning that failure to do so could result in new U.S. tariffs and sanctions, particularly against countries that continue to buy oil from Russia.
When asked whether Zelensky should attack Moscow, Trump responded firmly: “No, he should not target Moscow.” As for which side he supports, Trump replied, “I’m not taking sides. I’m standing with humanity because I want the killing to stop.”
He defended the 50-day timeline, arguing it’s a reasonable window for negotiations. “Fifty days isn’t too long — in fact, it could happen sooner,” he said.
