A bakery operated by the World Food Programme (WFP) has resumed limited bread production in Gaza after a scarce shipment of flour entered the enclave, marking a small yet significant step toward alleviating the region’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
This development comes despite Israeli border crossings remaining closed since March 2, as part of a broader aid blockade that has severely restricted the flow of essential goods, including food and medical supplies, into the territory.
According to WFP officials, the resumed operations are the result of a limited quantity of flour reaching Gaza, allowing at least one bakery to begin baking again. While the amount is insufficient to meet the needs of the entire population, the move offers a glimmer of hope for families who have gone weeks without access to fresh bread.
The blockade and continued closure of key border crossings have sparked international concern, with aid agencies warning of deepening hunger and instability in Gaza. WFP and other humanitarian groups have repeatedly called for safe and unimpeded access to deliver lifesaving assistance to civilians.
As the situation remains tense, humanitarian actors stress the urgent need for sustained aid corridors and a long-term solution to prevent further deterioration of living conditions in the densely populated enclave.
