Syria’s interim President Ahmed Al-Sharaa will not attend an upcoming Arab League summit in Baghdad, the Syrian presidency said yesterday, with Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani to represent Damascus at the event.
An Arab diplomatic source had earlier said that the Iraqi government had invited Sharaa for the meeting planned for Saturday but that he would not attend.
The Syrian presidency statement said that Sharaa “will not participate” in the summit, adding that the Syrian delegation would be headed by Shaibani, who “will represent Syria in the discussions”.
