Bahrain has announced its arrival on the global technology map after students from three of the Kingdom’s leading universities claimed top honours at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 Global Final in Shenzhen, China. Competing against more than 220,000 participants from over 2,000 institutions across 100 countries, Bahrain’s teams emerged as one of the event’s most decorated delegations in the competition’s decade-long history.

Bahrain Polytechnic led the charge, securing First Prize in the Network Track. Mentored by Dr. Omar Bani Fayyad, Head of School for Cybersecurity, students Yousif Alsayyad, Zahra Shubber, and Sayed Hasan Almosawi outperformed rivals from 49 competing nations to claim the top podium position.

Kingdom University delivered one of the competition’s standout moments, winning Third Prize in the Innovation Track alongside the coveted Global ‘Women in Tech’ Award. Under the guidance of mentor Ms. Marwah Assim Afyan, students Sarah Mohamed Sharif, Fathima Nazira Mohamed Naseer, and Riya Sharfraz were recognised for their groundbreaking contribution to female leadership in STEM.

Ahlia University rounded out Bahrain’s remarkable haul, earning Third Prize in the Computing Track. Led by Prof. Wasan Shakir Awad, students Aayat Mudassar and Mariam Salman demonstrated exceptional technical ability on the world stage.

Huawei Bahrain CEO Mr. Harry Yu praised the achievement, noting that the results validate the Kingdom’s strategic investment in digital talent. “When we equip our youth with cutting-edge skills, they don’t just compete globally — they win,” he said.

The competition, now in its 10th edition, spans multiple tracks including Practice, Innovation, and Programming, designed to bridge the global shortage of skilled professionals in AI, cybersecurity, and computing. UNESCO’s Dr. Shafika Isaacs, addressing the closing ceremony, commended participants for applying emerging technologies responsibly to solve real-world challenges across cultural boundaries.

Bahrain’s sweep of honours reflects the Kingdom’s growing commitment to building a future-ready, knowledge-based economy.
