Bhavans-Bahrain Indian School (BIS) successfully hosted Nutrition Week 2025 from September 7 to 11, transforming its campus into a vibrant hub of health awareness and nutritional learning.
The week-long initiative reflected the school’s steadfast commitment to fostering holistic development, nurturing both mind and body alongside academic growth.
The celebration, which engaged students from Grades 1 through 12, was meticulously curated to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, equipping learners with the skills to make informed dietary choices that can last a lifetime.
Early Years: Building the Foundation
Students in Grades 1 to 3 explored the theme “Balanced Diet Platter.” With charts, food models, and creative crafts, young learners designed their ideal meals while identifying key food groups and understanding the importance of a balanced diet.
Middle Grades: Showcasing Healthy Choices
Grades 4 to 5 brought enthusiasm to the “Healthy Snack Showcase,” where students presented homemade, nutrient-rich snacks such as fruit kebabs, vegetable dips, wholegrain sandwiches, and yoghurt parfaits.
The interactive activity combined taste with education, underscoring the value of replacing processed foods with wholesome alternatives.
Adolescents: Critical Food Awareness
In Grades 6 to 8, students became “Nutritional Detectives” through the project “Sneak a Peek at What You Eat.” By maintaining food journals, analysing dietary patterns, and decoding food labels, students uncovered hidden sugars, salts, and unhealthy additives. Their findings were presented in reflective discussions and charts, cultivating both critical thinking and self-awareness about daily consumption.
Senior Years: Innovation of Cooking without Fire
The highlight of the week was the “Cooking Without Fire” competition for Grades 9 to 12. Teams showcased culinary creativity with recipes for nutrient-dense, no-cook meals, ranging from colourful salads and smoothie bowls to oat-based energy bars.
The contest not only displayed culinary innovation but also emphasised the importance of healthy eating for today’s youth.
Campus-Wide Impact
Throughout the week, classrooms and common areas displayed student-designed posters featuring nutritional facts, eating tips, and the benefits of vitamins and minerals. This visual campaign amplified the message of Nutrition Week across the school community.
The school leadership underscored the significance of the initiative.
Director Mr. Himanshu Verma, & Mrs. Ritu Verma, emphasised the importance of cultivating nutritious food habits from an early age, noting that such awareness lays the foundation for lifelong wellness. “Nutrition Week goes beyond raising awareness; it instils lifelong habits of conscious and mindful living”, said Mr. Himanshu Verma. “At BIS, we believe education is incomplete without attention to the well-being of the whole person”, added Mrs. Ritu Verma.
Principal Mr. Saji Jacob highlighted how the activities help students internalise values and translate learning into real-life practice, reinforcing the connection between education, health, and personal growth.
By blending creativity, research, and innovation, Nutrition Week 2025 at BIS stood as a model of holistic education, empowering students to become not only academically proficient but also health-conscious global citizens. The initiative reaffirmed the school’s pledge to cultivate a culture of wellness, awareness, and sustainable lifestyle choices for its entire community.
