Samsung to Make Breakthrough in Early Dementia Detection

At the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung Electronics signalled a new era of ‘Intelligent Care’ with the unveiling of Brain Health, an AI-driven monitoring system integrated into the Samsung Health ecosystem. By leveraging the sensors in the Galaxy phone, Galaxy Watch, and Galaxy Ring, the feature aims to detect the ‘digital biomarkers’ of cognitive decline, such as dementia and Alzheimer’s, potentially a decade before physical symptoms surface. Unlike traditional clinical tests, this system operates through continuous, passive monitoring of everyday behaviours, including walking gait regularity, vocal fluency during Bixby interactions, and sleep architecture stability.
Security remains at the forefront of this innovation, with Samsung emphasising that all sensitive neurological data is processed locally on the device via the Samsung Knox Vault, ensuring that no personal brain health metrics are uploaded to the cloud. While Samsung clarifies that Brain Health is a tool for early warning and prevention rather than a formal medical diagnosis, the app can suggest cognitive training programs or alert designated caregivers if significant deviations from a user’s baseline are detected.
Currently undergoing clinical validation in partnership with major medical institutions, the feature is expected to debut in select markets later this year, likely coinciding with the release of the Galaxy Watch 9 and the Galaxy S26 series.
