Bahrain volleyball giants Dar Kulaib wrapped up their preliminary round campaign in the first West Asia Men’s Club Championship in Amman last night with a resounding victory over Shabab Al Hussein of Jordan.

The Bahraini representatives exerted their dominance to come away with a 3-0 (25-23, 25- 22, 25-21) clean sweep of their rivals, earning them their third win in four matches.

Argentinean professional Juan Barrera scores 12 points to spearhead their team in the contest. Dar Kulaib will now be looking to maintain their winning ways in the quarter-finals.

Dar Kulaib had previously triumphed against Shabab Nabi Ilyas from Palestine in their first assignment in Group B, but then lost to Al Rayyan of Qatar in their follow-up game.

They then bounced back against South Gas SC of Iraq, and then closed this stage out with their comfortable win yesterday against the Jordanians.

Dar Kulaib finished as runners-up in their pool behind only Rayyan, who were undefeated in four games.

In the round of eight, Dar Kulaib are set to lock horns with Oman SC of Oman, who were in Group A of the competition alongside Kuwait SC of Kuwait, Police SC of Qatar, Almeena VC of Yemen and home team Al Wehdat.

Their clash is scheduled for tomorrow at 4pm, Bahrain time.

The other quarter-final pairings are still to be determined. Coached by Brazilian head coach Leandro Kakaroto, Dar Kulaib relied on their top players including Mohammed Yaqoob, Nasser Anan, Mahmoud Abdulwahed, Ali Habib, Ayman Isa, libero Hussain Sultan, and Barrera.

Dar Kulaib are the lone Bahraini side in the tournament, which has been organised and is run by the West Asia Volleyball Association. It is scheduled to continue until Saturday.

Following the single round-robin preliminary phase, the top four teams in each group march through to the tournament’s round of eight, which will be held in the knockout system.

Aside from the West Asia men’s tournament, Dar Kulaib are also set to compete in the Golden Square semi-finals of the 2022/2023 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.
