Roman River won the Nass Corporation BSC Cup yesterday to headline an action-packed eight-race card at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC).

Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and SCYS deputy chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa were in attendance.

The five-year-old, owned by M and E Racing and trained by Alan Smith, was ridden to first place by Edinson Rodriguez in the day’s main event.

Rated 95, Roman River completed the race’s six-furlong distance in one minute 11.162 seconds to claim the lion’s share of the BD4,000 prize.

Buffer Zone, ridden by David Egan for Victorious and Hesham Al Haddad, finished as the runner-up a half-length behind, while in third place was Dark Power competing for Al Adiyat Racing, Alan Smith and Gerald Mosse.

The rest of the classification saw Solar Flair, Nine Below Zero and Aluqair in fourth through sixth place, respectively.

In the day’s seventh race for the Blue Dawn (Dodson and Horrell) Cup and a BD2,000 prize, Estikmaal of Al Asayel Racing emerged triumphantly. Trained by Khalid Al Khatri, the 85-rated seven-year-old won over nine furlongs in 1:51.514 ridden by Ben Sanderson.

Estikmaal prevented a double for the day for M and E Racing, Alan Smith and Edinson Rodiguez, as Emperor Within was a narrow second by only a neck, while in third was Al Fajir Mukbile for Raed Ahmed Yousif Alboainain, Yousif Alboainain and Abdulla Faisal.

There were two races for the Late Abdulla Ahmed Nass Sponsored by the Nass Group Cups. One was over 11 furlongs with a BD2,500 prize, won by Cartago for Al Adiyat Racing, Alan Smith and Gerald Mosse, while the other over seven furlongs and a BD2,000 prize was claimed by Tuwaisaan 1762 for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Abdulla Faisal.
