BAS Team set for endurance race

Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) Motorsports Team is all set to compete in the third round of the 2019/2020 Bahrain Karting Enduro Championship (BKEC) at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) this weekend. BAS CEO Salman Al Mahmeed is supporting the squad, which is composed of BAS staff members and managed by BAS COO Tony Smith.

The event is set to be a 12-hour race, set to flag off under the lights at 11pm tomorrow night and conclude in the day time at 11am on Saturday. BAS have teams competing in the event’s Pro and Corporate classes.

Among their entrants is an all-ladies outfit. Speaking ahead of the round, Al Mahmeed said: “We are extremely proud of our motorsport team of 35 Bahraini staff, who have dedicated their time and effort in the past three and six-hour races, to continue the challenge into the forthcoming 12-hour endurance race, and we wish them all the success in this gruelling event.”

Smith stated: “Our team members have been training hard over the past weeks in all weather conditions to ensure that they are prepared for any challenges they face, and hopefully with all the dedication from the team members, it will lead to some podium finishes.

However, we will have to wait and see the conclusion. I wish the team all the success.” Amongst their line-up of talented drivers is young Lewis Smith, who is also the Ambassador of the BAS Motorsport Team. He said: “This race will be a challenge for all of our team; we have been training well and have extended our experience and it clearly shows, with some very impressive times recorded within the practice sessions.

“We are very proud of our women’s team, managed by Milla Smith, who have excelled in their continued improvement, and I support them in this long challenge.” The all-female team entry of BAS consists of Maryam Al Qassimi, Fatima Zainudeen, Alanoud Alalawi, Christina Anieliesa, Alya Adel and Sujusha Bakaal.
