Canada begins its bid for a strong 2026 FIFA World Cup start tonight when they face Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Group B opener at BMO Field in Toronto. Kick-off is scheduled for 10pm Bahrain time.

The co-hosts enter the tournament expecting to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in their modern World Cup history, with home advantage seen as a key factor in their opening fixture.

Canada is competing in its second consecutive World Cup finals appearance and will aim to make an early statement in a group that also includes Switzerland and Qatar.

Bosnia and Herzegovina arrives in Canada following a strong qualifying campaign, having secured its place at the finals via the UEFA play-offs after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Italy.

This will be Bosnia’s second appearance at the global showpiece, following its debut at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They also enter the tournament in encouraging form, currently on an eight-match unbeaten run across all competitions.

Canada, meanwhile, is looking to reverse a difficult World Cup record, having lost all six of its previous matches across the 1986 and 2022 editions, scoring only twice in those campaigns. American head coach Jesse Marsch will be under pressure to deliver a positive start on home soil.

The fixture also marks the first-ever meeting between the two nations at the senior level.

Both sides arrive in solid recent form, with Canada drawing 1-1 against Ireland in their final warm-up match, while Bosnia were held to a similar stalemate by Panama.
