FIA Confirms U.S. Could Host World Rally Championship from 2027

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) is moving forward with plans to bring the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) back to the United States, announcing a candidate event set for mid-2026.

Organised in partnership with the Automobile Competition Committee of the United States (ACCUS), the event will run from 11 to 17 June and allow FIA delegates to inspect every aspect of rally operations, from sporting procedures to safety protocols. The assessment will determine whether the U.S. can host a full WRC round, with a successful evaluation opening the door for the championship to return in 2027.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasized the significance of the move, stating: “The United States represents one of the most important growth opportunities for the FIA World Rally Championship. Motorsport is part of the nation’s cultural DNA, with world-class domestic championships and a rapidly growing appetite for global competition. Expanding the WRC into North America will strengthen our global reach and connect rallying with a passionate and knowledgeable fanbase.”

The candidate event will cover stages and infrastructure across Kentucky and Tennessee, giving delegates first-hand insight into the terrain and facilities. The programme also includes a visit to an American Rally Association (ARA) National Championship round, providing direct engagement with the local rally community, including organisers, volunteers, and fans.

Delegates will meet with event promoter Podium Event Partners, experienced in multiple motorsport disciplines, including NASCAR.

Rallying in the U.S. has experienced renewed momentum in recent years, driven by grassroots participation and the strength of the ARA National Championship. This vibrant rally culture provides a strong foundation for hosting a world-class WRC event.
