Semenyo scores on debut as Man City storm into FA Cup
Manchester City began their FA Cup campaign emphatically as new signing Antoine Semenyo marked his debut with a goal in a crushing 10-1 victory over League One side Exeter at the Etihad Stadium yesterday. Just a day after completing his £65 million ($87 million) move from Bournemouth, Semenyo was among the scorers as City ran riot.
Erling Haaland started the match but was surprisingly not on the scoresheet before being withdrawn at half-time. Rico Lewis struck twice, while Max Alleyne, Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders, Nico O’Riley, and Ryan McAidoo also found the net. Exeter added to their misery with two own goals. Sunderland edged Everton on penalties after a 1-1 draw in an all-Premier League clash. Goalkeeper Robin Roefs was the hero, saving all three Everton spot-kicks to send the Black Cats into the fourth round.
Premier League strugglers Wolves continued their revival by hammering Shrewsbury 6-1, inspired by a hat-trick from Jorgen Strand Larsen to extend their unbeaten run to four games. Fulham scored three times in the final half hour to secure a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough at Craven Cottage, while Burnley had little trouble against Championship opposition as they swept past Millwall 5-1.
Brentford claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory away to financially troubled Sheffield Wednesday. Tottenham manager Thomas Frank will be hoping to ease pressure on his position when his side hosts in-form Aston Villa later on Saturday, while Liam Rosenior takes charge of Chelsea for the first time in the evening kick-off away at Charlton.
