FIA President Launches Global Task Force to Address Rising Motorsport Insurance Costs

Dubai, UAE – The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has launched a new global task force aimed at tackling the escalating costs and limited availability of motorsport insurance, which threaten the sustainability and growth of the sport worldwide.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem announced the initiative, highlighting that the rising premiums, restricted coverage, and reduced access to insurance pose a significant challenge for motorsport at all levels.

The newly established FIA Motorsport Insurance Task Force will draw on the FIA’s extensive expertise in both mobility and motorsport to provide clear guidance, practical solutions, and educational resources to Member Clubs. The task force will also facilitate cross-governmental engagement to help clubs navigate the changing insurance landscape.

“The FIA is committed to ensuring that motorsport remains safe, sustainable, affordable, and accessible while driving global growth,” said Ben Sulayem. “Rising insurance costs risk limiting opportunities and reducing accessibility around the world. We must work closely with our Clubs, insurers, and local authorities to deliver solutions that protect the sport and its participants.”

The task force was initiated by the FIA President and is led by the Secretary Generals for Sport and Mobility. Valerio Iachizzi, Secretary General for Sport, emphasized the importance of accessibility for the growth of motorsport. “Rising insurance costs are a serious challenge, especially for grassroots competitors and organizers. By working with Clubs, promoters, and insurers, the FIA aims to safeguard entry points into the sport and ensure its future worldwide,” he said.

Willem Groenewald, Secretary General for Mobility and Sustainability, added: “Affordability and safety are key principles in mobility, and they are directly relevant to the challenges facing motorsport today. Our experience collaborating with governments, regulators, and insurers to keep mobility accessible provides valuable insights that can also support the growth of our sport.”

The FIA Motorsport Insurance Task Force represents a proactive step to secure the future of motorsport, ensuring it remains safe, fair, and achievable for generations to come.
