Winfred Yavi delivered silver for Bahrain in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The Olym - pic champion clocked 8:56.46, finishing behind Kenya’s Faith Cherotich, who set a champion-ship record of 8:51.59. Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew took bronze in 8:58.86.
Yesterday’s event extended Yavi’s growing rivalry with Cherotich, who has already beaten her this sea-son in the Diamond League. The Bahraini remains among the world’s top forces in the event, adding another global medal to her collection.
Adekoya Falls Short in Hurdles
There was disappointment for Kemi Adekoya in the women’s 400m hurdles semi-finals.
The Bahraini representative clocked a season-best 54.04s but placed fourth in her heat, just missing out on a place in the final. Only the top two in each heat plus the two fastest losers advanced.
Netherlands’ Femke Bol led the qualifiers with 52.31s, while defending Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad also secured her spot.
Naser Targets 400m Gold
Attention now shifts to Salwa Eid Naser, who will compete in the women’s 400m final today at 4:24 PM Bahrain time. The 2019 world champion and 2020 Olympic gold medallist goes from lane 7 in a star-studded field that includes Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of the United States, who ran 48.29 earlier this season, Dominican Republic’s world number one Marileidy Paulino, and Jamaica’s Nickisha Pryce, a breakout per-former with a best of 48.57.
Naser, who qualified with 49.47 in the semi-finals, enters with a season’s best of 48.67 and will look to dominate a field stacked with top talent once again.
