Ricky Hatton Dies Aged 46
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police told CNN officers were called to Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45am, where they found the body of a 46-year-old man. No suspicious circumstances are currently suspected, and the cause of death has not been confirmed.
Nicknamed “The Hitman”, Hatton won world titles in both the light-welterweight and welterweight divisions during a storied career. He fought boxing legends including Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Kostya Tszyu. Remarkably, he remained undefeated with 43 wins until his 2007 loss to Mayweather, retiring in 2012 with a record of 45 wins and three losses.
In recent years, Hatton had been open about his struggles with alcohol, drugs, and depression, but he was set for a comeback fight against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai on December 2.
Tributes poured in across the sports world. Fellow former champion Amir Khan called him “a friend, a mentor, a warrior,” while Tyson Fury wrote: “There will only ever be one Ricky Hatton.” Other figures, including Chris Eubank Jr. and Michael Owen, expressed their condolences.
Hatton is survived by three children, Millie, Fearne, and Campbell, and a granddaughter, Lyla. His legacy as one of Britain’s most beloved and fearless fighters will be remembered forever.
