The Italian league has announced that the final matches for title contenders Napoli and Inter Milan will now take place on Friday evening, instead of the originally scheduled Sunday fixtures.

Neck and Neck at the Top

With just one point separating the top two—Antonio Conte’s Napoli sitting on 79 points, and defending champions Inter trailing at 78—everything is on the line. If the teams finish the season level on points, the title will not be decided on goal difference. Instead, a one-off playoff match would determine the Scudetto winner.

That playoff, if needed, is tentatively scheduled for May 26, just days before Inter’s Champions League final on May 31, allowing Simone Inzaghi’s side a small window to regroup if required.

All Eyes on Friday

The decision to move the matches to Friday ensures fairness, as both teams will compete simultaneously without knowing the other's result. The rest of the Serie A fixtures—six in total, affecting European qualification and relegation battles—will proceed on Sunday.

This rare move signals the league's desire to manage competitive integrity while accommodating Italy’s last remaining Champions League finalists.

The stage is now set for a Friday night finish filled with tension, nerves, and possibly, a Scudetto playoff drama not seen in Serie A since the era of title-deciding head-to-heads.
