GPIC announces launch of ‘Environment Programme’

The Environment Committee of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has announced the launch of 15th GPIC Environment Programme for Environmental Research for the academic year 2018/2019. This was revealed during the closing of the programme of the induction meeting held at the Company’s club.

Students and supervisors who represented 20 secondary schools from Bahrain’s Private and Public schools were selected to participate in this year’s competition, the company said in a statement. GPIC President Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery said this was the first programme of its kind that provides support and sponsorship for scientific research in the field of the environment.

He said the Company Management has been careful to monitor a specific budget each year to provide the necessary funding for scientific research. The programme, according to GPIC, has funded 302 types of research so far out of the 1100 research topics that have been introduced since the start.

The programme was launched in the academic year 2004/2005 in cooperation with the Department of Student Services at the Ministry of Education. It has since then continued uninterrupted. Trained engineers visit the public and private schools from various levels and offer environmental lectures in both Arabic and English. Over the course of the programme, lectures were given at 332 schools, where 24,000 students benefitted.
