NBB Confirms Search for Next Group CEO Is Well Advanced as it Looks to Enter Next Chapter as Bahrain’s National Champion Bank
The Board of National Bank of Bahrain B.S.C. (“NBB”) has confirmed it is well advanced in a search for the Bank’s next Group CEO to lead its future growth and strategic development.
As part of its focus on long-term succession planning, and to support the Bank’s strategic ambitions, including the proposed merger with Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait B.S.C. (“BBK”), the Board has been actively assessing the leadership capabilities required for the Bank’s future over recent months, including an external review and market mapping of potential leadership talent. The exercise has been supported by an independent global executive search firm.
After four successful years in the role of Group CEO, and as part of the long-term talent planning exercise, Mr Usman Ahmed has decided to step down and pursue a new professional opportunity.
Mr Ahmed will continue to lead the Bank during an agreed transition period working closely with the Board and senior management to ensure continuity and an orderly handover. His last working day with the Bank will be 31st December 2026.
The Board expects to announce the appointment in due course, subject to regulatory approvals.
Mrs. Hala Ali Husain Yateem, Chairperson of NBB, said: “NBB has real momentum and the ambition to match. Our objective is to appoint an experienced leader able to build on our recent success, deliver our long-term strategy and lead the Bank through its growth and transformation to cement our status – at home and in the wider GCC – as Bahrain’s national champion bank.
“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Usman for his leadership over the past almost four years. He leaves the Bank stronger, more focused and ready for what comes next, and we are grateful for his commitment to a seamless transition.”
The proposed merger with BBK continues to progress on its own timetable and today’s announcement does not change the status or timing of any transaction. NBB will keep the market informed of material developments in line with its regulatory obligations.
