Professor Ghufran Ahmed Jassim First Bahraini Physician Promoted to Full Professor at RCSI
The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain announced the promotion of Professor Ghufran Ahmed Jassim, Head of the Department of Family Medicine, to the rank of Full Professor, marking an important milestone in the University’s academic development.
With this promotion, Professor Ghufran becomes the first Bahraini physician to be promoted to the rank of Full Academic Professor at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, in recognition of her sustained contributions to medical education, research, clinical practice, academic leadership and community engagement throughout her career.
A leading academic in family medicine and women’s health, Professor Ghufran has made significant research contributions in areas including breast and cervical cancer screening, artificial intelligence in healthcare, preventive medicine and primary care.
Commenting on the promotion, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, said: “On behalf of the University, I extend my sincere congratulations to Professor Ghufran on her well-deserved promotion. Attaining the rank of Full Professor recognises her years of dedication and contribution to teaching, research, clinical practice and academic leadership. This landmark achievement also reflects RCSI Medical University of Bahrain’s long-standing commitment to developing Bahraini talent. Today, Bahraini nationals comprise 51% of the University’s workforce, with 63% of all new appointments over the past two years being Bahraini.
Since 2019, ten Bahraini staff members have commenced or completed Master’s or Doctoral programmes, demonstrating the University’s strong investment in professional development. These achievements reflect an institutional culture that nurtures continuous learning, encourages ambition, and empowers Bahraini colleagues to develop their careers and contribute to the Kingdom’s higher education and healthcare sectors.
