Parliament is set to debate a proposal for state-backed commercial companies that would allow Bahrainis to invest and earn a share of the profits. The Financial and Economic Affairs Committee has already endorsed the plan.

Put forward by MP Dr Ali Majid Al Nuaimi, the proposal calls for the government to establish and manage businesses with public investment, giving citizens the opportunity to buy shares. Supporters argue it could boost the economy, increase household income, and create new job opportunities.

“This isn’t just about business—it ’s about ensuring everyday Bahrainis benefit from government-backed projects,” said Dr Al Nuaimi. “By encouraging shared investment, we can foster a stronger savings culture and provide families with greater financial security.”

If approved, the initiative would see the government overseeing the creation and operation of these companies while offering Bahrainis a trusted investment avenue.
