Realising a Dragon dream
Dragon City will be inaugurated on December 27, Diyar Al Muharraq and Chinamex have announced.
The $100-million project is the only one of its kind in the region that is designed to encompass the superior standards it boasts, both structurally and on an infrastructural basis.
Its eclectic offerings and alluring nature will attract visitors, customers and investors from all over the GCC, heralding a new age of success, prosperity and fame in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Elaborating on the significance of Dragon City, Chief Executive Officer of Diyar Al Muharraq, Dr Maher Al Shaer said: “On behalf of Diyar Al Muharraq, I would like to express my immense joy and pride at being able to announce that we shall have the pleasure of opening our doors to the Kingdom of Bahrain on December 27. At this historically significant juncture, I would like to thank the government of Bahrain for its unwavering support in our far-sighted vision, without which we would not have gotten this far and also, Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa for his tremendous support to our project right from its early stages. In addition, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our industrious partners, our invaluable stakeholders and the members of our staff for their passionate efforts towards the perfect manifestation of what we had envisioned right from the beginning.”

Dragon City will also conveniently change the perspective of jet-setting businessmen in the Kingdom completely as it will provide Bahraini nationals the chance to save on exorbitant travel expenses by relying on wholesale units within the project for all their needs. Once officially inaugurated, we welcome one and all to our consequential project and look forward to embracing the positive change in lifestyles of all in the Kingdom that Dragon City will bring about,” he concluded.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Chinamex Middle East Investment & Trade Co. Ltd, responsible for the management of Dragon City, Hao Feng, said: “With joint efforts put by Diyar and Chinamex, and support of related government departments of both China and Bahrain, Dragon City is finally ready to welcome the public now. Till today, Dragon City has successfully attracted hundreds of Chinese manufacturers and trading companies to set up their business in Dragon City, and the total occupation is over 95 per cent, among which nearly 10pc are local companies. It is expected that over 60pc of the shops will be ready to operate on the opening day, covering building materials, lighting fixtures, furniture, electronics, home appliances, children fashion and garments, as well as a food court, etc. To celebrate the Grand Opening of Dragon City, Chinamex will offer a three-day China-style artist performance, and China-brand car raffles to the public, giving local people a chance to experience Chinese culture and a real Made-in-China. We believe that the opening of Dragon City will witness a new stage of economic and trade relationship between China and Bahrain.”
Spread over a total land area of 115,000 square metre, with a built-up area of 56,000 square metre, Dragon City is the first of its kind development in Bahrain, which will offer unique wholesale and retail opportunities to local consumers, trade customers and tourists. Dragon City encompasses Dragon Mall and a themed “Dining Village.”
The Mall Design is infused with Chinese architectural and cultural aspects incorporating over 747 commercial units for both retail and wholesale trade and additionally, a 4,500 square metre area designated for warehouses. The Dining Village spans a land area of 6,000 square metre and a parking area large enough to accommodate 1,500 cars.
Additionally, Dragon City also includes Dragon Apartments in close proximity to Dragon Mall. Occupying a total land area of 20,000 square metre, Dragon Apartments comprise six multi-storey residential buildings encompassing both four and six floors with a total of 300 apartments and are seen to be the ideal residence for those invested in Dragon Mall and for those working in the
Mall.
Work on Dragon Apartments is totally complete and the first group of residents is due to move in their apartments soon.
The Dragon City concept was launched in May 2012 as a result of an operational agreement between Diyar Al Muharraq and Chinamex. Nass Contracting was commissioned for the construction of Dragon City while Cluttons was appointed the leasing agent for the project in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Also, an agreement was signed with Bin Faqeeh Real Estate Development Company for the development of Dragon Apartments, and Banz Group was appointed for Warehouse Management and Logistics Services for Dragon City.
