Punishment upheld for publishing indecent content about children

The Court of Appeals has upheld the punishment for an individual found guilty of publishing indecent content about children. The defendant, identified as an Asian man, has been sentenced to six months of imprisonment, fined BD100, and will face deportation as a result of his actions.

The prosecution’s case was initiated when the Child Protection Unit in Cyberspace, operating under the General Administration of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, received a report regarding the concerning matter.

This report originated from the Unit for Combating Committed Crimes Against Children within the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol). The report provided detailed information about the existence of video clips containing indecent material involving children.

Through thorough investigation and diligent work, the authorities were able to trace these clips back to a specific Bahraini phone number user, ultimately identifying the accused as an Asian national.

Subsequently, the accused was apprehended by the authorities. Upon the arrest, the Public Prosecution launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. During the interrogation process, the accused confessed to the charges that were brought against him.

The investigation further revealed that the accused had obtained the video clips from various social media networks and subsequently republished them. Recognising the gravity of the offense, the prosecution swiftly ordered the trial detention of the accused individual, ensuring that he remained in custody throughout the investigation. The prosecution also expedited the referral of the case to the appropriate criminal court for further legal proceedings.
