Russia and Bahrain are negotiating agreements to grant visa-free travel to their respective nationals. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov announced that negotiations are currently underway for both their citizens to travel between countries, without the need for a visa, also including three other Arab countries, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait.

Ivanov told TASS agency, “The government’s draft agreements for the visa waiver for Russian citizens with a number of countries, namely, Bahrain Saudi Arabia, Oman, the Bahamas, Barbados, Haiti, Zambia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Trinidad, and Tobago, are at different staged of work.”

Ivanov stated that once agreements are finalized, they will make the announcements. Since Putin’s invasion in Ukraine, Russians are increasingly seeking refuge from the war and international sanctions in Gulf states. Data released by Russia’s federal statistics show that between July and September of 2022, 277,000 of Russian citizens traveled to the UAE.
