The High Appeals Court ordered a shipping company to pay BD28,000 as compensation to the parents of a worker who died in an accident that occurred while he was cleaning a ship. The ruling also obliged the Social Insurance Company to pay BD1,728 in compensation for the funeral costs. A huge iron fell on the victim’s head, killing him. As a result, his parents filed a complaint against, blaming the company and three of their son’s co-workers for his death. They demanded to be compensated for the incident.

According to court files, the deceased was a maintenance worker tasked with cleaning the ship. Two of his coworkers carelessly threw a rod from the ship, hitting him on his head. He was pronounced dead at the site. An expert was called to investigate the incident, and he blamed a supervisor in the company for failing to take the required precautions to safeguard the victim. The parents’ lawyer demanded BD32,000 in compensation, but the Court agreed on BD28,000.
