Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Polytechnic, stressed the importance of harnessing modern technologies in fish farming to raise the production rates locally. The minister also clarified that the food security strategy of Bahrain pivots around employing modern technologies, creative and technical ideas and solutions to overcome various challenges.

The minister said this while attending a presentation by the engineering and information and communication technology students during the Sixth Engineering Projects Exhibition 2022 held by Polytechnic in cooperation with the Cloud Innovation Center in College, AWS, and Tamkeen. Students Ali Nabil Abdulnabi, Zohour Hussain Bushail, Maram Waleed Al-Jassem, Zahra Muhammad Al-Asfour, Hussain Muhammad Marhoon, Zahra Faisal Al-Afh, Hamza Khaled Sanad, and Ghassan Abbas Al-Shajar, presented the project that supports fish farming.

Officials at the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), the Bahrain Institute of Pearls and Gemstones (Danat), and the supporting bodies were present. The project relies on techniques that take instant readings of temperature and oxygen saturation levels in all tanks.

It also includes an early alert system that triggers digital and physical actions to mitigate fingerling loss. The programme also integrates Alexa and Amazon Echo-activated Audio-video to visualise the condition of the tanks.
