Bahrain Minister praises UNESCO education plans
Minister of Education Dr Majid Al Nuaimi affirmed that Bahrain supported UNESCO’s programmes and plans on the development of education. In his latest speech at the 38th session of UNESCO General Conference in Paris yesterday, the Minister stressed the Kingdom’s backing to UNESCO programmes that focus on providing equal education for all, integrating information technology and communication at the educational institutions and promoting the concepts of citizenship, human rights and coexistence.
The head of Bahrain’s delegation also added that the Kingdom aspired to consolidate the cooperation with UNESCO following the leadership’s directives, especially during the current conditions that threaten world peace.
The Minister reviewed the most important aspects of cooperation between the UNESCO and Bahrain and the achievements made through it, including the establishment of the Regional Centre for Information and Communication Technology, establishment of Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), and the ‘UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize’ for the Use of ICTs in Education – which has been renewed for the next six years.
Al Nuaimi expressed Bahrain’s support for Incheon Declaration, which was signed at the World Education Forum 2015 (WEF 2015) in South Korea. He also strongly condemned the terrorist attacks and act of vandalism on education institutions, including those on the schools in Bahrain.
He stressed that protecting education institutions should be brought to the forefront of the member states’ interest, noting that the recent acts of sabotage on schools have brought the total number of attacks on educational institutions to an uneasy 435.
He also added that the Ministry would continue to provide outstanding educational services in a safe environment that ensure education for children in Bahrain, in line with UNESCO’s conventions.
