Israel’s Nitzan Horowitz visits King Hamad Hospital, SCH, discusses ties

Top Bahraini and Israeli health officials mulled ways to enhance cooperation during a visit of Nitzan Horowitz, the Israeli Minister of Health, yesterday to the King Hamad University Hospital. Major General Doctor Sheikh Salman bin Attiya Allah Al Khalifa, the Commander of King Hamad University Hospital and Horowitz, who is on an official visit to the Kingdom, said they would share experiences in the sector in going forward.

Doctor Sheikh Salman further said the visit would advance cooperation with Israel in health, medical, research, training, education and development. The Israeli Minister then toured the Bahrain Cancer Center and learned about the latest radiological devices in diagnosing tumours.

Horowitz praised the quality of services at King Hamad University Hospital and the Bahrain Cancer Center that keep pace with the most advanced international standards. Senior officials from King Hamad University Hospital and the Bahrain Cancer Center, and Dr Waleed Al-Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, were present.

Talks at SCH

Separately, Israeli Minister of Health, Nitzan Horowitz, and his accompanying delegation held talks with President of the Supreme Council for Health (SCH), Lieutenant-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Health Minister, Faeqa bin Said Al-Saleh, and senior officials of the health sector. The SCH President stressed the importance of broadening areas of cooperation to enhance the steadily-growing relations between Bahrain and Israel.

He praised the ongoing efforts to bolster health cooperation between the two countries, citing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two sides.

The MoUs, he said, would pave the way for more cooperation and exchange of expertise in combating global epidemics, emergency management, medical and pharmaceutical systems, education and training. The deal also stipulates launching large-scale joint economic and health projects, cooperation in protecting data in the fields of medicine and public health, increasing visits by specialists, exchanging information, in addition to health and medical research.

The Israeli delegation learned about the role of the SCH in devising and following up on the implementation of the National Health Plan, including the National Social Health Insurance Programme, the development of the healthcare sector and the health insurance system. The Israeli delegation also visited the Salmaniya Medical Complex and learned about its services and facilities.
