Students bank on Citi for lessons
Close on the heels of the internship programme held in April, Citi Bahrain conducted its second internship programme for the St. Christopher School’s students on its premises in September.
The first programme had five students from Grades 11 and 12, but the second batch had 10 students of the same levels as earlier. “We wanted to offer students the opportunity to learn how a global bank works with access to more than 100 cities around the world and at the same time caters to its clients in each city,” said Navneet Kampani, Consumer Banking Head, Citi Bahrain.
“This programme falls within Citi’s keenness on sharing its knowledge and experience with the future generation to help explore different career opportunities,” he explained.
The purpose of the internship programme was to give the students an insight into how each department functions and the role each team member plays towards the overall structure and daily tasks carried out in the bank.
Describing the programme as “amazing”, Shawn Amirthan, a student of St. Christopher’s school, said: “Citi’s internship programme opened up a whole new side of banking to me. It made me feel like I was a part of the world of banking. The internship helped shape my future career and gave me fruitful insight into the path that I would like to pursue in the future.”
At the end of the two-week internship, the students were given a task of preparing a presentation on the bank’s products and services to about 50 guests, including their parents, teachers, friends and other invitees.
They covered the Citigold offers and basic services for the clients, including loans and credit cards.
Citi Bahrain plans to run up to two more internship programme throughout the 2015/2016 academic year.
