Bahrain’s citizens and residents have been called to abide by all precautionary measures during Eid Al Adha festivities to avert a possible surge of coronavirus (COVID-19) active cases. The appeal was made yesterday by Supreme Council of Health (SCH) president Lieutenant-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

rn

Dr Shaikh Mohammed reiterated the importance of following all measures in order to avoid a potential repeat of the spike in total active cases resulting from Ramadhan and Eid Al Fitr gatherings earlier this year, in which the number of cases increased dramatically by more than 1,000 in a span of just over two weeks.

rn

Dr Shaikh Mohammed, who is also the National Taskforce for Combatting COVID-19 head, urged full commitment to preventive measures so as to support the Kingdom-wide efforts to fight the pandemic and mitigate its impact on public life.

rn

He underlined every individual’s responsibility towards self, family, the community and the whole nation, urging all Bahraini families, as well as expatriates, to avoid outdoor gatherings, and help protect the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases.

rn

Dr Shaikh Mohammed stressed the need to limit contact, adhere to the criteria of social distancing, and to wear face masks when meeting people or when leaving the home, preferably only when absolutely necessary.

rn

The SCH chief commended the dedicated national efforts exerted by medical teams in the frontline of the battle against the pandemic, praising multi-party cooperation and coordination in line with World Health Organisation recommendations. Dr Shaikh Mohammed also expressed congratulations and good wishes to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.

rn

He also extended Eid greetings to His Royal Highness the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, and First Deputy Prime Minister.

rn

Dr Shaikh Mohammed wished HM the King, Bahrain’s government and people, and all Arab and Islamic nations, many happy returns, praying to Allah the Almighty to bless the Kingdom with further progress and prosperity and the world with health and peace.

In line with the SCH president’s message, a set of guidelines were released, as part of the public awareness campaign to combat COVID-19, that are to be observed during Eid Al Adha, for the safety of all. These include limiting Eid gatherings, adhering to social distancing measures, greeting family and friends virtually, and transferring “Eidiyas”—money gifts to children during Eid—electronically
