Five men in the dock over riot incident
Manama
---
Five defendants involved in a riot case will learn their fate on October 5. The defendants have a suspected role in the sabotage that occurred in Budaiya Highway on November 17 last year. Vandals reportedly set 15 tyres afire. They were arrested after investigations.
The defendants have been accused of putting lives in danger, burning furniture in public and participating in an illegal gathering.
Trial adjourned
Elsewhere in courts, the High Criminal Court has adjourned the trial of 29 defendants implicated in triggering a homemade bomb until November 10 to hear prosecution witnesses.
The suspects, all of whom are Bahrainis aged between 16 and 25, are said to have detonated the improvised explosive in Bani Jamra on September 12 last year, when police officers were also on site.
The defendants have been charged with attempted to murder police officers, going off an explosive, possessing bombs and flammable devices. However, only six of the defendants are in police custody, as the other defendants are still at large and being tried in absentia. Their trial has been adjourned until September 20.
Meanwhile, the trial of five suspected arsonists has been also adjourned until September 30. The defendants are implicated in a riot broke out on September 21 last year, where they had allegedly planted fake bombs and set tyres ablaze.
