Foreign Minister attends UNGA session

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa participated in the opening of the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly of at the UN headquarters in New York along with the leaders and heads of delegations from various countries.

Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon has opened the general debate of the General Assembly by delivering a speech on the pressing challenges of the day including immigration, terrorism, extremism, the situations in Syria, Yemen, and issues related to development.

UN General Assembly President, Mogens Lykketoft addressed the post 2015 Agenda for Sustainable Development to be achieved by the international community and the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals in securing better life for all States.

Among the speakers who addressed the general debate of the 70th UNGA Session are: President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil, US President Barak Obama, His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in addition to a number of the world leaders.

The meetings of the United Nations General Assembly debates provide a venue for consultation and exchange of views between all countries of the world on the challenging issues and problems facing human societies along with devising innovative solutions for them.
