Bahrain organises high profile fete at UN

Bahrain has organised at the UN headquarters in New York a top profile reception on the occasion of granting Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa the Information and Communication Technology in Sustainable Development Award by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The celebration was attended by diplomats, more than 150 senior officials from the UN and its specialised organisations.
Head of Prime Minister’s Court Shaikh Husam bin Isa Al Khalifa said the top honour bestowed on HRH the Premier is an assertion of his pioneering role in utilizing new technology to carry out development strategies.
He added that conferring the top honour on HRH the Prime Minister coincided with the 70th anniversary of the UN and the 150th anniversary of ITU.
“Therefore the award is a tribute from ITU for the Bahraini government’s keenness to share with the world global trends in mapping out suitable solutions for existing issues,” he explained. He also said that HRH the Premier had devoted himself for the service of his nation and people. “As a matter of fact, he deserved the honour in recognition of his efforts to boost Bahrain’s prosperity and maintain its security and stability,” Shaikh Husam added.
Director of ITU office at the UN in New York Gary Fowlie praised Bahrain’s efforts to avail of ICT in backing the sustainable development efforts, stressing that HRH the Premier set a model for many countries seeking to provide communication networks for citizens.
