Habitual thieves wanted in 82 different theft cases in the past two years, have finally been nabbed.
The suspects, from Eastern Europe, have stolen BD 200,000 worth of cash and jewelry from 2013 to the beginning of 2015.
“We received numerous calls from the Capital Governorate about robberies in flats, in which similar items were stolen. We followed all procedures but there were not leads. The fingerprints and the DNA samples collected belonged to unidentified persons, " a senior police officer said in a video released by Interior Ministry's Al Amn channel.
"The offenders carried out a string of thefts and then stopped for a while and then resumed randomly. This happened nine times. We had suspicion that the offenders came from outside Bahrain, and so we started monitoring those entering and leaving through Bahrain International Airport,” he explained.
He said, before long they pinpointed their suspicion on the arrested thieves, as it was observed, the crimes occurred when they were in Bahrain.
“They stayed abroad for a while and we started following them through social media. They are kickboxing players and athletes, so it was easy for them to break the doors and safes,” he pointed out.
He said they obtained copies of their passports and requested the concerned authorities to to inform us about their arrival," he said.
The suspects arrived in Bahrain in February and police started surveying them.
"We followed them from the airport until they checked into a hotel. We continued to monitor the hotel until the evening of the second day when two of them walked out of the hotel carrying backpacks. We saw them entering some flats, and soon after they left, we inspected it, and found that it was robbed.” he added.
Police immediately followed and arrested them. "We searched them and found the stolen items. They also possessed sharp objects used to break open the doors.
The stolen items were seized from them, along with some sharp objects used to break the doors. When their hotel was searched, other tools used for robbery, including knives, masks and detonators for self defence were found," he added.
