Bahrain's security, stability above all considerations

New York

At a time when the world is gripped by multiple crises, Bahrain asserted that maintaining security and peace was the core to achieve economic development and growth. Addressing the Speakers of world parliaments at United Nations Headquarters here yesterday, Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mulla stressed that the maintaining of Bahrain’s security and the safety of citizens should be above all other considerations.

“Bahrain has been targeted by foreign meddling aimed to jeopardize its national sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as undermine its democratic march, development, security and stability,” remarked Al Mulla, who headed the Bahraini parliamentary delegation to the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments meeting here. The global parliamentary summit is held every five years. The summit will conclude today.

Al Mulla reiterated the Kingdom’s absolute rejection of external meddling as rejected by all applicable international conventions under any pretext.

“Bahrain affirms the importance of mustering collective international efforts to confront global terrorism to ensure world peace, security and development. Terrorism does not respect any religions or geographic boundaries,” he pointed out.

Citing Bahrain’s measures and regulations to protect the society from the plague of terrorism, Al Mulla mentioned the Kingdom’s participation in the international alliance against Daesh terroristic group. He also highlighted Bahrain’s participation in the Saudi-led Arab coalition supporting Yemen’s legitimate government to restore security and stability.

Addressing the Speakers at the conference, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged them to help drive forward the new UN sustainable development agenda. “Ensure that civil society are equal partners in building the future we want.”

“We are being challenged to strengthen our collective resolve to promote peace and security, sustainable development and human rights around the world,” said Ban.

“People will look to you to hold your governments accountable for achieving the goals, and to write the laws and invest in the programmes that will make them a reality,” he commented.
