Comic Con gets rousing reception
Manama : Hundreds of comics’ enthusiasts gathered for the first- ever Comic Con event in the Kingdom yesterday bringing together fans across television, film, video game, and science fiction genres. Started as an international event in California in 1970 and travelling across major cities every year, the two-day Bahrain Comic Con saw locals and expats flock to the Bahrain International Circuit to indulge in multi-genre entertainment.
Hosting local and international guests, the event also featured celebrity presence from the world of wrestling, animation, television and gaming.The first day included an interaction with WWE Superstar and General Manager of SmackDown, Daniel Bryan, Game of Thrones Star Jerome Flynn, Voices of Overwatch video game characters D Va and Widowmake, Charlet Chung and Chloe Hollings.
“We’re thrilled and excited,” said organiser Khalid Bukhari of Dallah Promotions and Events.
Picture time and sing along with the famous Anna Faith and Lexie Grace known for their role as the Frost Sisters, who cosplayed Queen Elsa and Anna from Disney’s Frozen was a highlight of the event.
Video game fanatics gathered around game stations to register for gaming tournaments like League of Legends, FIFA18, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Tekken and Mario Cart.
“I’m really excited about the tournament, I wish I could play for a living,” said a young video game enthusiast at the Overwatch gaming station.
Artists occupied an entire hall dubbed the Artist Alley to showcase their creativity as well as give customers a feel of the fictional characters by providing face painting, sketching and character make-up.
“The creativity of these artists is incredible,” said a customer admiring a live sketch by an artist.
Cosplay geeks displayed their creative side by dressing up as characters from the world of comics, manga and gaming.
“I look around and I see that everyone has put in incredible effort for the tournament, fingers crossed,” said a very convincing gamer dressed as his favourite character from DC Comics.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa inaugurated the event and focused on the significant role of Bahrain Comic Con 2018 in supporting the development of Bahrain’s tourism sector and strengthening the country’s reputation as a destination for world-class events.
