Eight on trial for pushing women into prostitution

Manama : Eight female suspects will stand trial on August 21 for forcing women into flesh trade after trapping them with promises of well-paid jobs in Bahrain.

Public Prosecution confirmed the trial date at the First Higher Criminal Court yesterday.

The suspects, according to Deputy Chief Attorney Nasser Al Sheeb, forced a number of women into flesh trade after trapping them with false promises of jobs.

Police said the unsuspected victims, who reach Bahrain lured by the offers, learn about the trap only after getting locked up and threatened to receive customers.

With no passport or opportunity to escape, the victims were then given choices either to pay a big amount or to work as a prostitute to pay their debts.

If refused, the victims were subjected to brutal and violent circumstances until they accept the demands.

According to court files, the main accused collected money from the customers and shared it with others members in the racket.

“The Public Prosecution heard the testimonies of the victims and witnesses, and interrogated the defendants and ordered their detention,” Al Sheeb said. Nationalities of the people involved were not disclosed.
