Manama : Possibility of strengthening Bahrain-India cooperation in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector will be explored during a key conference which will take place later this year in India.

Businesses from Bahrain will take part in the World Food Indian Expo which will be held in November.

Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI)’s Food and Agriculture sector Committee in cooperation with Indian Embassy and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will be organising Bahrain’s participation for the event.

An awareness seminar was held at BCCI premises yesterday with participation of Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha, BCCI Food and Agriculture sector Committee and businessmen from the FMCG sector.

CII Chief Representative to Bahrain C S Raghavan told DT News that India is keen on enhancing the investment relationship between the two countries.

“We have been making sustained efforts in increasing the bilateral trade between the two countries,” he said.

“There is a lot of interest from India to come here and invest here. Likewise, there are also many Bahraini companies that want to source from India,” he pointed out adding that there are already many companies that source fruits from India.

Fruit juice processing, according to Raghavan, is one such sector that offers tremendous opportunities for investment.

“We are welcoming anyone who is ready to be part of its processing, he said adding: “We will be arranging meetings according to the profile of the companies from Bahrain.”

“We expect good things to come out of the business to business meetings that will be arranged between participants from Bahrain and those in India. This is one of the reason why we want to profile the people who are traveling from here to India, we want to set up meeting with the right businesses,” Raghavan added.
