Works Ministry to study flyover proposal at Riffa roundabout
Manama
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has directed the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to study a proposal to construct a flyover near the clock tower in Riffa.
Addressing media persons yesterday after the Cabinet meeting, chaired by HRH Premier, Information Affairs Minister, Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi said that the directions were issued after the proposal to build a flyover was broached during the meeting.
The proposal cropped up after complaints were raised about long tailback at the roundabout, which is located close to the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Hospital. It takes a long time for the motorists to cross the roundabout during the peak hours.
The Minister said a comprehensive study was needed before taking up the flyover project. “The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning would conduct the study.”
The project would be completed as part of the Government Action Plan and it would be funded from the Gulf Development Fund.
Meanwhile, Al Hammadi declined to comment on the time frame of the study. But he said that the work for the flyover would begin once the project was finalised.
More staff at entry points
The Information Affairs Minister said that more staff would be assigned at the entry points of the Kingdom to manage the heavy rush during the Eid festival. “The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) will organise a variety of cultural programmes during Eid holidays. We welcome everyone to spend a pleasant time in Bahrain,” the Minister said.
Commenting on the withdrawal of subsidy on meat, Al Hammadi said that there was no change in the decision taken in this regard. “The committee on subsidy will meet before Eid holidays,” informed the Minister, adding that the Ministers would take decisions on bringing down unwanted expenses in their respective Ministries.
