Explosives Found Near Balkan Stream Pipeline Spark Sabotage Concerns

Belgrade : Two backpacks containing large explosive devices were found a few hundred metres from the Balkan Stream pipeline near the Serbia–Hungary border, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said.

The site is part of the TurkStream pipeline network, which transports Russian gas to Europe via the Black Sea and Turkey. Vucic warned that if the explosives had detonated, gas supplies to millions could have been disrupted.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban convened an emergency defence council meeting on Sunday, describing the incident as a possible act of sabotage.

Both Serbia and Hungary remain heavily dependent on Russian energy, unlike other European nations seeking to reduce reliance. Without directly assigning blame, Orban said Ukraine has long aimed to cut off Europe from Russian energy and warned that ongoing threats to the TurkStream pipeline pose serious risks to Hungary.
